The Next Solar Eclipses in Spain

The answer depends on where you stand. An eclipse can be total in one narrow band, partial across a continent and invisible elsewhere. For Spain, the next two dates are 2 August 2027 and 26 January 2028.

The first of Spain's three eclipses, the total eclipse of 12 August 2026, crossed northern Spain close to sunset. Two remain.

2 August 2027: totality returns in the south

The path covers Ceuta and Melilla, almost all Cádiz province, much of Málaga and the southernmost parts of Granada and Almería. The rest of Spain sees a partial eclipse. It occurs in the morning, around 10:50 mainland Spanish time. IGN gives maximum Spanish totality of about 4 minutes 48 seconds in Ceuta. See our Spain 2027 guide.

26 January 2028: an annular ring

The Moon appears too small to cover the Sun completely, leaving a bright ring. The annular path reaches approximately half of Spain near sunset, including much of Andalucía and parts of Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, Aragón, Murcia, the Valencian Community, Catalonia and the western Balearic Islands. The bright ring is direct sunlight, so glasses stay on throughout.

After 2028

The 2028 event completes Spain's Iberian eclipse trio. According to IGN, another total solar eclipse will not be visible from Spain until 2053.
