Nine months before the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027, about half of the organised eclipse tours in southern Spain are already sold out, full or waitlist-only. On 2 November 2026 we still found places with Guided By (Ceuta), Connecticut Audubon (Tarifa), Capture the Atlas (near Vejer), Cross Cultural Journeys (Conil), Nomade Aventure (Málaga base), Untours, Viajes Santa Mona (Vejer), Wild Watching Spain (one departure, Sotogrande) and The Adventure People (Cádiz). Most groups watch from the Strait of Gibraltar or the Costa de la Luz, where totality lasts about 4 to 4 minutes 48 seconds, at around 10:45 to 10:51 in the morning (CEST, UTC+2). Below: every tour we could check on the operator's own page, with dates, viewing site, starting price and status, how long totality lasts at each site, and which operator claims don't add up.

Which Spain eclipse tours for 2027 can you still book?
The table lists each tour with the status and "from" price its own page showed on 2 November 2026. Totality times are our own calculation for the viewing site or base town the operator names (skyfield with the JPL DE421 ephemeris, sea level; published values such as IGN's differ by a few seconds). Where the operator gives no site, we say so. For the eclipse itself, town by town, see our Spain 2027 eclipse guide with map.

Sources: each operator's page, linked below, read on 2 November 2026. "From" prices are the lowest shown, usually per person sharing and without international flights unless stated; read each page for what is included. We left out a New Scientist tour and a Great Courses tour (we could not open a live operator page), a photo safari page with no dates, a meetup with no booking page, and a page that sells an "expedition" while saying it doesn't offer tours.
The pattern looks like Egypt's: the long-planned science and museum tours went first, and what is left is mostly smaller groups, photo workshops and hotel packages. If Egypt is still on your list, compare our Egypt eclipse tours roundup.

Where do the Spain tours watch, and how long is totality there?
Almost every group stands somewhere between Conil and Gibraltar. That is no accident: the centre line of the eclipse crosses the Strait, so the closer you are to it, the longer the Moon covers the Sun. Ceuta, on the African side of the Strait but Spanish, gets the longest totality in Spain, 4 min 48 s (IGN gives the same figure). Tarifa gets 4 min 39 s, Gibraltar 4 min 27 s, Algeciras 4 min 26 s, Zahara 4 min 24 s, Vejer about 4 min 06 s, Sotogrande about 4 min 05 s and Conil 4 min 01 s. Cádiz city, near the northern edge of the path, gets 2 min 53 s, and Marbella about 3 min 15 s.
Everywhere in this area, totality begins between about 10:45 and 10:47 CEST and the Sun stands 37 to 39 degrees high in the east-south-east, so a low hill or a building to the east can block the view at a hotel. The partial phases run from about 09:41 to 12:01. Our Cádiz and Tarifa guide, Gibraltar guide and Málaga guide give the times to the second for more spots.
| Viewing site | Totality starts (CEST) | Totality lasts | Sun altitude |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ceuta | 10:45:22 | 4 min 48 s | 38° |
| Tarifa | 10:45:09 | 4 min 39 s | 38° |
| Gibraltar | 10:45:35 | 4 min 27 s | 38° |
| Algeciras | 10:45:29 | 4 min 26 s | 38° |
| Zahara de los Atunes | 10:45:03 | 4 min 24 s | 38° |
| Vejer de la Frontera | 10:45:06 | 4 min 06 s | 38° |
| Sotogrande | 10:45:54 | 4 min 05 s | 38° |
| Conil de la Frontera | 10:45:01 | 4 min 01 s | 38° |
| Castellar de la Frontera | 10:45:46 | 3 min 59 s | 38° |
| Marbella | 10:46:51 | 3 min 17 s | 39° |
| Cádiz | 10:45:26 | 2 min 53 s | 37° |
| Málaga | 10:48:11 | 1 min 50 s | 39° |
A tour based in Seville or Córdoba has to drive into the path: Seville sees 98.4% of the Sun covered, not totality (see our guide to the partial eclipse in Spanish cities).
Which operator claims don't add up?
Most pages get the basics right. A few don't, and it is worth knowing before you pay a deposit:
- The date. Guided By's FAQ says the eclipse is "at 10:45am local time on August 12th". The 2027 eclipse is on 2 August; 12 August was the 2026 eclipse. Its 4 min 48 s for Ceuta is correct.
- "Midday". Untours and Cross Cultural Journeys describe a midday darkness. In Spain totality falls in the middle of the morning, at about 10:45 to 10:51 CEST.
- A vague site. Nomade Aventure's listing describes the trip as running between Málaga and Córdoba (the Córdoba days come after the eclipse) and does not name the viewing site: it is chosen the day before, depending on the weather.
- Times without a time zone. Classic Astro Reisen gives totality times with no time zone (they match CEST) and shows the year as "2028" in one place.
- Quoted figures. A Sotogrande boat-trip page quotes "IGN" values of 2:56 for Cádiz and 1:57 for Málaga; IGN's own page says 2 min 54 s and 1 min 48 s.
- The same trip, two statuses. Explore's US site shows its Andalucia, Gibraltar and Eclipse trip as sold out, while its UK sister brand The Adventure People shows the same trip code with "6 or more" spaces. Ask before you book.
Before trusting any duration, check it against an independent source such as IGN or our eclipse timetable by country.
Are there day trips, boats or Spain-and-Morocco tours?
Yes, a few. Two eclipse boat trips in the Strait were on sale on 2 November 2026: Totality Sotogrande (from Sotogrande marina, early-bird €495 per adult until 10 January 2027, certified glasses included) and a sailing trip by Viajes Santa Mona (€890 per person). Cruises are in our separate guide to 2027 eclipse cruises.
Several "Spain" itineraries actually watch the eclipse in Morocco, near Tangier or M'diq: California Academy of Sciences (waitlist, members only), Love at First Adventure (sold out, waitlist), Explore's Andalucian Highlights and Morocco Eclipse (sold out on TourRadar) and EF Ultimate Break (bookable, "3 left at this price"). Morocco has been on GMT all year since September 2026, so totality there is at about 08:45 local time, not 09:45 as some older pages say.
What if every tour is full: can you go on your own?
Yes, and most people will. Spain's eclipse commission is preparing mobility, security and health plans for 2027 (reported on 8 and 12 October 2026), but no special rules for visitors had been published by 2 November. Turismo Andaluz advises booking accommodation and transport early, checking visibility by municipality and using certified glasses. We found no reliable figures on hotel availability newer than August 2026, so book a bed inside the path as early as you can.
If you travel independently, the practical choice is a base inside the path with an open view east, and a plan B if the Levante wind brings cloud to the Strait. Our town-by-town guides for Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola, Málaga, Gibraltar and Cádiz and Tarifa list viewpoints and travel notes.
Do tours include eclipse glasses?
Only some say so: Tours of Distinction, Explore / The Adventure People, Armadillo, Cain Travel, Classic Astro Reisen, Nomade Aventure, Arcatour and the Totality Sotogrande boat. Wild Watching Spain asks guests to bring their own, and the rest don't mention glasses. Everyone needs a pair for the partial phases, which last more than an hour before and after totality. Look for the CE mark, EN ISO 12312-2 and the manufacturer's name; our guide to the ISO 12312-2 standard and what Spain's 2026 withdrawals teach explain what to check. Our own certificates are on the compliance and safety documents page.
Tember glasses come in packs of 4 to 100 and are certified to EN ISO 12312-2 with the CE mark: See the glasses. For groups, see bulk eclipse glasses.
Frequently asked questions
Are Spain solar eclipse tours for 2027 sold out?
About half are. On 2 November 2026 Tours of Distinction, Cain Travel, Armadillo, Naturetrek, Classic Astro Reisen and two Wild Watching Spain departures were sold out or full, and Smithsonian and AHI had waitlists. Places remained with Guided By, Connecticut Audubon, Capture the Atlas, Cross Cultural Journeys, Nomade Aventure, Untours, Viajes Santa Mona, one Wild Watching departure and The Adventure People.
How much does a Spain eclipse tour cost?
The starting prices we found run from about €1,390 to €1,690 for short hotel packages without transport, through about €2,200 to €5,000 for most guided tours, to US$7,990 to US$8,795 for the Smithsonian and Guided By trips. Most exclude international flights.
Where in Spain is totality longest?
Ceuta, with about 4 min 48 s. On the European side, Tarifa gets about 4 min 39 s and Gibraltar about 4 min 27 s. Cádiz city gets about 2 min 53 s and Málaga about 1 min 50 s.
What time is the eclipse in Spain on 2 August 2027?
Around the Strait of Gibraltar the partial eclipse starts at about 09:41 CEST, totality starts at about 10:45 to 10:47 and lasts up to about 4 to 5 minutes, and the partial eclipse ends at about 12:01. It is a morning eclipse, not a midday one.
Is it worth going to Spain without a tour?
Yes, if you book a bed inside the path early and keep a flexible plan for the weather. The whole coast from Conil to Gibraltar and much of the Costa del Sol are in the path; the main risks are traffic, heat and the Levante cloud in the Strait.
Do I need eclipse glasses if I join a tour?
Yes. Only some tours include them, and everyone needs certified glasses (CE mark and EN ISO 12312-2) for the partial phases. You may take them off only during totality itself, inside the path.
